While writing this series on developing for the AGENT smartwatch I hit a problem. To convert images to 1bit for use on the watch, I use Photohop, but not everyone has access to that. There are however free alternatives like Paint.NET and GIMP, but it looks like Paint.NET cannot save true 1bit images (at least without a plugin), and I almost stabbed my eyes out with a blunt butter knife when I opened GIMP.
I am 100% sure there is at least 1 free little tool that does exactly what I want, but my GoogleBing-fu was broken. So I made a little app that will convert most formats to a 1bit image, and optionally resize it too.
In the app, click Open Image and select an image. Optionally uncheck the box and type in a custom width and height.
When you are happy, hit Save Image. The image will be saved to the original path but with .bw.gif appended.
The result is a 1 bit image in the size we selected.
I have only tested it on a bunch of different formats that I have, and haven’t run into any problems. Let me know if you have issues!
